At Stanmore Jafferys (SJ), our volunteers are the backbone of everything we do. They give their time, energy and expertise not for recognition, but out of a deep sense of service to the community. From the sports fields to the car parks, from administration to leadership, their quiet dedication sustains and uplifts our organisation.
As we reflect on the many milestones SJ has achieved over the years, we are reminded that behind every success lies a network of selfless individuals who make it possible. Today, we pay tribute to four of those individuals whose years of contribution and commitment have left a lasting impact on our community.
Captain MAK – A Legacy of Leadership
Few names resonate with the same respect and admiration as Mumtazali Bhai Kassam, fondly known as Captain MAK. His journey with SJ spans back to the 1990s, marked by tireless service across multiple sports and initiatives. A qualified swimming instructor, cricket umpire and teacher, Captain MAK has always brought professionalism, passion and discipline to every role he has undertaken.
Among his many contributions, his vision and initiative in founding SJ Seniors stands out as one of his greatest legacies. What began as a simple idea to keep our elders active and socially connected has grown into a thriving programme of over 250 members — a model now admired by communities worldwide. Under his guidance, SJ Seniors has become a vital space for health, friendship and belonging.
Beyond this, his leadership in swimming, his presence as team manager at international tournaments, and his dedication as a volleyball referee all exemplify the selflessness that defines him. Captain MAK’s name has become synonymous with service and integrity, and SJ remains indebted to his unwavering commitment.
Muntazeer Rajwani – Service with a Smile
Every successful event relies on those who quietly ensure that everything runs smoothly, often away from the spotlight. Muntazeer Rajwani is one such individual whose consistent presence has come to symbolise reliability and dedication at SJ.
Come rain or shine, Muntazeer can be found in the car park at tournaments and community events — helping direct traffic, assisting members, and ensuring safety and order for all attendees. His willingness to serve in any capacity, coupled with his warm smile and humble attitude, embodies the true spirit of volunteerism.
His contributions remind us that every role, no matter how visible, plays an essential part in creating the welcoming and organised environment for which SJ is known. Muntazeer’s example is a testament to how service, performed quietly and sincerely, strengthens the very fabric of our community.
Asif Panju – The man behind the stories
In the modern era, communication plays a vital role in connecting communities, celebrating achievements, and inspiring engagement. Over the past five years, Asif Panju has been at the helm of SJ’s social media and marketing, ensuring that our message and values reach far and wide.
Through his careful management of content and thoughtful approach to communication, Asif has helped present SJ with professionalism and clarity. His efforts have ensured that our community’s successes are shared and celebrated, and that our initiatives continue to inspire participation and pride.
While much of his work takes place behind the scenes, its impact is visible to all who engage with SJ online. Asif’s management and consistent execution have been key in shaping SJ’s digital identity, and we express our deep appreciation for his continued commitment and service.
Mohamed Valjy – The Football Visionary
Football has long been one of the cornerstones of SJ sport, and Mohamed Valjy is one of those who have led and nurtured the growth. Driven by a genuine passion for the game and an unwavering commitment to inclusivity, Mohamed has played a central role in developing opportunities for players across all ages and abilities.
Fondly known as Uncle Mo to many, his efforts in organising tournaments, fostering community engagement, and building strong team structures have been instrumental in the continued growth of SJ Football. His initiative in introducing the Community Cup, among many other contributions, has brought people together under the shared spirit of sportsmanship and unity.
Mohamed’s leadership exemplifies how passion, when combined with purpose, can build lasting legacies. His work continues to inspire others to give back to the game and to the community that unites us all.
Each of these individuals represents a unique thread in the rich tapestry of Stanmore Jafferys, a reminder that our success is not built on moments, but on people. Their commitment and humility inspire all of us to serve with sincerity and to strive for excellence in everything we do.
