Salaamun Alaikum
The Salaam Cup has over the last four years been a significant date in the SJ calendar. Last year, the award winning tournament attracted over 100 teams with more than 2,000 spectators attending the one day tournament including dignitaries from the FA. The tournament epitomises a community spirit in its true sense with the fantastic volunteers representing our club and community.
Organizing and executing a tournament of this size and nature requires a significant allocation of resources and meticulous planning by the project team and volunteers alike. Furthermore, the club needs to be cognisant of the tournament’s sustainability over the long term.
Taking all factors into consideration, SJFA has taken the decision not to proceed with Salaam Cup 2020 allowing the project team and volunteers the opportunity to re-energize and return revitalized for future events.
We are aware that many of you, especially the boys, will be disappointed by this decision however there will be future events to look forward to.
In the meanwhile, we will continue with our planning for the Community Cup on 20th June, which will give the older youth players the opportunity to shine.
