After over 10 years leading SJ cricket, Shabbir Mulji has taken the heart wrenching decision to step down as cricket coordinator. What can we say about this amazing selfless cricket icon within SJ.
Shabbir led SJ cricket with distinction. On the pitch Shabbir is a wily, canny bowler- a superb fieldsman and a flexible batsman who can dig in when times are tough, and open up and express himself with elegance and power.
During his tenure as cricket coordinator, Shabbir had to guide SJ cricket through some very tough times. A lack of interest in the sport followed by Covid meant that this great sport that has produced greats within our community from East Africa was on the verge of collapse.
Through organising friendly matches, the sport amongst the few passionate members was kept alive. In between, Shabbir also managed to organise teams to go to a number of International tournaments.
Over the last two Summers, Shabbir saw an opportunity to press on. Like he would do batting in the death overs, Shabbir’s passionate driving of regular mid-week matches, summer and winter nets, two successful tournaments and a youth camp has now brought the interest in cricket back. We as a cricket and sports loving community can only offer our thanks and gratitude to Shabbir for the sterling work over the years.
The cricket club is now in need of someone to come forward and replace Shabbir. We are in the space where we have good contact with the local councils, various contacts at local clubs as well as a network of clubs to play friendlies with.
We are looking for someone to spearhead our affiliation with Middlesex CC to help unlock more opportunities available to us. Please send your applications for this position to Tauseef Kanji by email to:

Deadline for applications is 1st Nov 2022.
