SJ Cricket welcomes Mohamed Vasi Sheikh

Following the departure of Shabbir Mulji as the cricket lead, SJ would like to warmly welcome Mohamed Vasi Sheikh who takes over the reigns of SJ Cricket. Vasi bhai, as he is known to many, shares his background and passion for cricket and his thoughts on the future of SJ Cricket.

“Firstly, a massive thank you to Stanmore Jafferys for giving me the opportunity to serve the community via the sports medium.

Secondly, the bar set by Shabbir Mulji is so high that even if I manage to do 10% of what he did that will be an achievement, once again thanks for all your efforts.

My cricket career has been a long one, starting from the streets of Mumbai to vast cricket fields of Azad Maidan & Islam Gymkhana and currently playing at a beautiful private ground in west London which I call my second home i.e. Wycombe house.

I have been there for 12 years and have witnessed lots of promotions and relegations as captain. Within the past 5 years i have been heavily involved in the development of the club and creating a strong bond with Middlesex from a logistics perspective and ensuring the growth of colts section is on the upward curve.

I have been part of the SJ community over the last 5 years and have enjoyed every single bit, especially the Dubai tournament. I still cannot forget Zafar bhai talking about his ONLY one innings and we were a bit far away with Shabbir bhai commentating exactly what Zaf was saying. This still gives me cramps in my stomach.

My aim for SJ moving forward is to inculcate a strong bond with colts for cricket and enrich the seniors to partake with them so we can achieve success in the long run together.

Lastly I just want to conclude by saying ‘Together we can and we will make a difference'”.
