Box leagues are a great way to meet and play different opponents competitively all-year-round. It is completely free to enter for all SJ members but players must enter as a pair which makes a team.
At the end of the round, the number of boxes up or down a team moves before the next round starts is based on final league standings, the number of matches played and the margin by which matches are won or lost.
The SJ padel box leagues are also used as the main source of determining a players’ playing level and with the ongoing limited availability of spaces for seasonal padel tournaments that SJ holds, priority of entry for some of these tournaments will now be given to active box league participants to ensure their commitment to SJ padel all-year-round is rewarded.
Arranging Matches
The padel box leagues are split into separate boxes of 4 teams (pairs) each where each team within the same box is required to arrange and play all other teams once in any order. These matches can be arranged and played at any time and place agreed between the teams but before the round deadline for the box passes. A round usually lasts three months allowing plenty of time to arrange and play the 3 matches required i.e. one match per month is what most players normally aim for but not essential provided the 3 matches are completed before the final deadline.
To support and help make it easier for teams to arrange and play their matches, SJ also holds regular competitive sessions at Padel United – Bushey allowing teams to pre-book slots in which to play their box league matches. Please see the group description on the main SJ Padel WhatsApp group for specific dates these are held and more information on how to secure these slots for matches.
Unfortunately, teams that have not managed to arrange/play any of their matches at all are automatically removed from the next round.
Scoring
Matches are played as 3 straight sets, not best of 3 sets but 3 sets in total with a golden point at deuce. If the games reach 5-5, a team must win the next two games to win the set 7-5. If the games reach 6-6, a tie-break is played in the same style as tennis to decide the set winner and the score will be recorded as 7-6.
For league standings, 1 point is awarded per set won by the team meaning a 3-0 win in a match would result in a full 3 points being awarded to the winning team. If a set has been started and is unable to be completed in time, the ‘virtual set winner’ will be the team leading by 2 games or more, any less will result in no points being awarded for the set to either team.
Dates
Fri 28th February 2025:
Registration deadline for all new entrants. New players wanting to join must join as a team (pair) and must have registered via the google form which can be accessed by clicking on this link here. To avoid any confusion, only one the pair should sign up for both on the form. Existing players are not required to re-register as they are automatically rolled over to the next round.
Fri 28th March 2025:
New boxes will be released and can be viewed by downloading the Tournify app by searching “SJ Padel Box League”. You can then view your fixtures and start arranging a convenient time and place with your opponents to play your matches.
Monday 30th June 2025:
Final deadline for completion of all round 2 matches. Round 3 will then commence immediately after this.
