SJFA held its first-ever FA Coaching Disabled Footballers Course on 1st December at Harefield. The training was delivered by Rob Seale from Chelsea FC with over 16 years of experience in this field, both on club and national level. The day was divided into two parts, classroom training in the morning, and practical in the afternoon. The SJFA coaches learnt more about what to consider when coaching children with additional needs and how we can plan for sessions in a more progressive manner, ensuring every child can get the most of the session.

The in-house arranged course was also offered to other clubs through Middlesex FA, and we hosted several external coaches bringing fresh perspectives. We had the honour of hosting Helder Silva, an Arsenal and England amputee player, with some fantastic skills, which our Tier 1 kids experienced followed by a Q&A on what makes a good player, regardless of ability.

This course marks the start of a journey for the SJFA to create a more inclusive club for children of all abilities. A dedicated team is being established to ensure children who need additional support get it, and enjoy the sessions fully, both with physical exercise and socially.

SJFA are keen to encourage inclusion from all parts of the community. If you have a child with additional needs for or know of any one with additional needs, please get in touch and we can discuss getting them involved in football in a fun and safe environment.
