When four proud sponsors, a sunny day at Lord’s, and a few dozen competitive cricketers collide — the result is classic SJ chaos: sixes, sledges, samosas, and smiles all round.
After a feast of cricketing drama, Team Dentaliving reigned supreme as champions, proving that strong teeth do in fact make for stronger shots.
World Sim, led passionately (and very audibly) by Fayyaz Kermali, fought all the way to the final but had to settle for runner-up status — a result Fayyaz is reportedly still appealing to the third umpire.
Conveno gained an eleventh-hour boost when Wasim Fazel made his much-anticipated debut as a last-minute call-up, while Valerian Gardens added style, camaraderie, and the occasional boundary dispute for good measure.
Best Batsman: Fazal Abbas Fazel – Four not-outs, towering sixes, and a masterclass in composure. Fazal’s bat spoke louder than any team chat.
Best Bowler: Ali Kanani – Surgical precision, vital wickets, and electric fielding. Opponents saw more of his follow-through than the ball itself.
Best Colt: Ali-Jawad Fazel – Three not-outs (including a gorgeous six), a slick stumping, three catches, two direct-hit run-outs, and a brace of wickets. A walking highlight reel with a surname that’s starting to worry bowlers club-wide.
Best Overall: Wasim Karim – The ultimate all-rounder and leader. Batting, bowling, fielding, motivating, possibly even arranging the catering — Wasim did it all with trademark calm and class.
Big cheers for the SJ youngsters who shone throughout:
Ali Haji with some classy batting;
Ali Nurmohammed, bagging three wickets in a single game;
Husein Bhaloo, miserly with the ball and resilient with the bat;
Mikhail Rashid who bowled some gas and batted with aplomb:
Hassan Zaidi: some quick bowling scaring the adults before showing class in the field
and of course Kiyaan Hassan Fazel, just 12 years old, whose leg-spin puzzled senior batsmen and whose boundary catch had the crowd on its feet.
And let’s not forget Akhtar Jaffer — showing maturity beyond his years, channeling his inner Tariq Iqbal with a sharp wicket-keeping catch that had even the veterans nodding in approval.
No SJ day is complete without legendary catering, and Hubb absolutely delivered — biryani that disappeared faster than a Fazel cover drive and samosas crisp enough to be declared “unplayable.”
A massive thank you to Wasi, MKB, and the entire organising team for putting together such a superb tournament — flawlessly run, brilliantly spirited, and full of laughter. The community atmosphere was pure SJ magic.
Congratulations again to Team Dentaliving, the undisputed 2025 champions — and proud new owners of bragging rights until next year (or at least until Fayyaz organises a rematch).
